We are currently seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join a busy healthcare team in Lewiston, Maine. This temp-to-hire opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with patients while supporting providers and clinical staff in delivering high-quality care.As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in both clinical and administrative functions, helping ensure patients receive outstanding care in a professional and supportive environment.Responsibilities
Assess patients' general condition, including taking vital signs and weight.
Assist physicians with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments.
Provide basic patient care as directed by providers.
Accurately document patient interactions, treatments, medications, and responses in the medical record.
Promote patient wellness through education materials, physician guidance, and follow-up instructions.
Adhere to infection control standards, safety regulations, and patient confidentiality policies.
Assist with prior authorizations for diagnostic procedures.
Support clerical functions, including medical records management, EMR document indexing, filing, and secretarial duties as needed.
Provide coverage and assistance in additional administrative areas when required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge of infection control, patient confidentiality, and environmental safety procedures.
Experience with medical records, chart documentation, and electronic health records (EHR/EMR).
Strong health information management and patient documentation skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, clinical staff, and administrative team members.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and coworkers.
Ability to adapt quickly and effectively to changing priorities and workloads.
