Job Description
Our customer is in need of Public Works laborers for tasks as assigned.
Job Description & Duties* Works alone or as a member of a crew while doing maintenance or construction projects i.e. paving and street maintenance, and labor associated with winter maintenance of streets, sidewalks and parking lots. * May also work City rubbish collection, be assigned to the Hatch Hill Solid Waste Facility or labor duties for the Parks and Cemeteries crew.* Assist with the repair and general maintenance of sidewalks, roads, crosswalk striping, sweeping, brush removal, mowing, weed-whacking, catch basin cleaning and other general construction/maintenance work associated with Public Works projects including winter operations.* Use and general daily maintenance of hand and power tools and construction equipment such as shovels, rakes, hot top lutes, jackhammers, compactors, weed- whackers/pole saws and other equipment to perform construction and maintenance work. Uses various hand tools such as those associated with outside construction and maintenance.* Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions necessary in general earthwork-like construction labor, winter work and general maintenance work including working in a commercial garage.* Ability to quickly make coordinated movements to accomplish a job.* Ability to understand and follow simple verbal and written instructions.* Ability to follow verbal direction to travel to a jobsite and begin performing duties in the absence of a supervisor.* Ability to interact effectively and get along with coworkers and the public.* Moderate physical activity with occasional lifting of objects weighing over 50 lbs* Must be able to bend, pull, push and reach for extended periods of time.* Work performed generally outside or as assigned with potential to extremes of temperature.* Performs related work as assigned
